Filling In The Season 1 & 2 Gap... Sort Of

I hope this clears up some of the "multiverse / parallel realities" confusion. It takes time to wrap your head around the concept that there isn't just 1 or 2 Olivia's... but infinite Olivia's. Just think back to Walter explaining it on the chalkboard, every decision you make brings to life a new reality (i.e.; getting out of bed or sleeping in... eating breakfast or skipping... to shower or not... to go to work or call in... etc.)I have provided this image to better clear up the confusion from season 1 to season 2... it isn't artsy but it should get the point across. I'm doing my best to explain this as there has been a lot of confusion brought up with Bell's words... http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/ad125/the-other/fringe.jpg The reason I say "sort of" in the thread title is because we were following Olivia #01 while Olivia #02 continued down the normal timeline we've followed throughout season 1 (until the last 5 minutes of the finale) and find ourselves following again at the beginning of season 2. A "missing section" of the timeline as it were. Do you find this valuable?

Aren't you placing the accident too late in your sequence ?The car crash happened "before" Olivia got to the restaurant, did'nt she ? The problem on your timeline is that there was a part of time where there was no Olivia at all. When the team gets to her SUV, nobody's in it. Do you find this valuable? |

"Aren't you placing the accident too late in your sequence ?As aforementioned, I watch the show for the science of it all more-so than the actually storyline... From what I remember of Season 1, she was pulled to the other reality while in the elevator. It is feasible either way you look at it, she may have been pulled from her car while driving or in the elevator... just depends on how you'd like to see it. As for my time line construct, look at the 45-degree angle lines as the time it took to shift between worlds; so each 45-degree angle represents "1 hour" according to the show. And before it's mentioned, I may have put the transition lines in the wrong spot on the time line, but you appear to have gotten the gist of it. Do you find this valuable? |

Just to be sure: the bottom line in your graphic is "Olivia's presence in our world", right ?I'm just saying there should be an empty gap somewhere since, for an hour, there was no Olivia at all. Do you find this valuable? |

I had a somewhat similar solution to yours (I think..check out remark #69) in that there were two Dunhams and an instantaneous exchange. However, the TV Guide interview referenced by remark 83 smacks right in the face of our solutions. In the remarks after 83, we kind of said, "let it rest...this isn't the first thing we didn't exactly like..." Do you find this valuable? |

Well If you recall the end of Season 1, As Olivia was Driving to the Restaurant to meet with Nina Sharp, She almost got in an accident. So According to String Theory, and Multiple Universes, where in Each choice you make creates an alternate universe, In Bell's World, that Olivia Got in a Car Accident. Our Olivia, from our Universe, jumped at least 3 universe, indicated by the three Jumps of Different People in the Elevator with her, before she met with Bell. Although, What would make more sense for Olivia to Return to the elevator, She is returned to Her Suv, and thrown out of the Vehicle. That I do agree seems a little out of place.

OH! i should have checked out your diagram first. THAT fills in the gap of the car crash. I just thought it was odd, that we where shown Olivia almost getting into a car accident on her way to the resturant. do you think it's possible that was Olivia, who almost hit Olivia?

Just found this article from TV Guide.com's Interview with the Producers...... Thought it might throw a bit more thought into this conversation! You have an interesting take, but here's the Producer's take:TVGuide.com: What exactly are we witnessing when Olivia is shot through that windshield? Is that her returning from "over there"? Wyman: Yes, you borrow from momentum, and it has to be paid back. Ultimately, what happens is, she got taken out, and as soon as she gets put back in, she's going to come in at the same trajectory where she was taken out. TVGuide.com: Um, OK... wait, what? Pinkner: If you go back and watch the season finale, Olivia thought she had a near-miss car crash. The truth is, there was a car crash. She was pulled out of the car [just before the crash] into an alternate universe. Now that she's being put back in, that's what Joel's talking about with the momentum. Her seat belt would have stopped her, but now that she's being put back in the car, she's crashing through the windshield. We will experience what happened to her in the parallel universe in an upcoming episode. [Editor's Note: Thursday's episode!] TVGuide.com: So what was all that jazz in the elevator then? She had already crossed over at that point? Wyman: Yep. TVGuide.com: So then the accident takes place right after Olivia's meeting with Dr. Bell? Pinkner: No, it's happening immediately before. Wyman: She's taken out just before impact, she spends some time with Bell and... Pinkner: She's returned a couple hours later. There's time for paramedics to arrive. Wyman: The car was driverless for a while. The car continues into the crash. essentially what happened was that bell pulled olivia over into an alt universe while she was driving, bringing her into an identical SUV. In that Alt universe there is a near miss instead of a crash. From there she is pulled into the alt universe that bell is in. On returning to prime universe she is put back where she was taken from, the crashed SUV.

"now here's a good question -- olivia is pulled out of this universe into another from one suv to another, who was driving the other suv and what happened to themThis is where the writers and produces got it wrong... they want you to believe that there wasn't another driver of the alt-reality SUV that Olivia was in..... hence why I was speaking about carbon copies. Where that carbon copy went, I couldn't say. Sadly, I am losing faith in the writers. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
