"and what was with the girl that olivia chased she appeared to be holding a detenator of some sort.. then she was gone.... reminded me of an earlier episode that had olivia and john blown up at a storage placethe detenator thingy made the hall lights flash a red and green sequence, making Olivia lose the girl she was chasing....hypnotized her for a few minutes, long enough for the girl to get away. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. "i need to go back and watch i think i missed the light pattern there"I'm surprised no one else is picking this up... In an earlier episode the guy who was looking for the weird object in the ground who they ended up shooting in the woods.. he was wearing a beanie and they did a close up of it and it had the "green green green red" pattern http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YPCf8JFgUdI/SON-HT5uANI/AAAAAAAAHyc/JnzFUrzhIh0/s1600-h/vlcsnap-5829364.jpg It was also seen on the under side of the kayak. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPCf8JFgUdI/SON7CttbzgI/AAAAAAAAHyU/ftVfV0RqC1s/s1600-h/Kayak.jpg Tonight the pattern to the lights that controlled people were green green green red. The green green green red was also used in the eyes of the observer when he looked through his advanced electronic binoculars. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPCf8JFgUdI/SOT2ew5Z9EI/AAAAAAAAH18/O3AfSeBvGQ4/s1600-h/Binoculars1.jpg Anyone?????? 13 out of 14 found this valuable. "I just read the synopsis of episode 10 (unnamed as of now) and it says:While yes I believe the math/music problem which was solved, help this agent be able to pull the apple thru solid metal....and this sets up more episodes, I agree with the others, please post when your going to look ahead and post spoilers. And not in the threads where we are already have a topic going. Perhaps name a thread, "Looked ahead spoilers" or something similar, so then we have a choice to know that or not. I like this show but this was one wasted hour. I've got question after question. I also don't understand the deal with the apple. It goes in the machine and comes out the same and they say "it worked". Huh? More questions:1. How did Olivia all of a sudden know where to find the boy? She searches the building and I'm thinking...huh? How did she find the place? I don't have a clue. 2. Was the boy imagining his mother being alive because he was actually strapped into a chair the entire time with a contraption on his head? 3. What did the musical piece have to do with anything and the boy kept saying he couldn't finish it. Did he finally finish it and did it have something to do with the equation? 4. And what use was it for Walter Bishop do go and see his buddy at the sanitorium? What did this guy give him that helped anything? Too many things left unsaid that we're supposed to figure out. It almost feels like like a bad job of editing with a lot of important scenes being left out, although I know that's not the case. This episode was the worst one yet. 1 out of 12 found this valuable. I'm surprised nobody here got it.The machine is a teleportation device. The equation is a Heisenberg Compensator - the thing that makes sure that what you're teleporting doesn't fly apart on the other side or turn into splooge. 8 out of 10 found this valuable. Do you? |

Some people seem to be missing what the guy was doing at the end. The equation that the woman obtained was basically a physics equation that the man in the end used to penetrate the safe. The man was able to program the equation into a machine that created a frequency, using a balloon like square as an oscillator, that would oscillate the molecules of the safe so that he could pass his hand through it. There wasn't any magic to the apple, just that he was able to pull it out of the rear of the safe. I believe that this is might also be the frequency that is need to open or penetrate "The Cylinder" that the observer is chasing. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

i agree. you aren't paying attention. you need to record it and watch it twice before you ask questions. the device on the boy's head was obviously a hallucination device of some sort, but that doesn't matter. you are completely asking the wrong question. the REAL question is: "what caused his mother's death in the first place?" - that might get you somewhere. of course he finished the piece and of course it completed the equation. watch it again. he went to the nutt-house because his friend had also been abducted and forced to work on the equation. there was a lead so they followed it. this guy ma have given him more than you think. for example, his encounter at the nutt-house has helped him to realize what it must be like for "normal" people to attempt communication with "abnormal" individuals. this has shown him how important it is to hold on to what sanity he can and take advantage of his second chance at life... ----- also, bosunbill, why do you think it is a teleportation device? thanks. 4 out of 6 found this valuable. "Some people seem to be missing what the guy was doing at the end.i agree in part. i didn't think at all that it was a "teleportation device" and can't figure out why some would think it was. it seemed apparent to me that the point was to penetrate the safe. i don't think there is reason to believe that this is or can be used to access the cylinder. its composition is far superior to the safe's. So the green green green red lights pattern is used to control people's mind (freeze in time for the father and Olivia, hallucination for the child). Wich could be used by the bad guy with a beanie on episode "The arrival".But I don't get the link with the observer. I thought he might have used a green/red pattern to match Peter's speach (like make him "think" he was matching his speech insted of actually doing it). But I watched the sequence and, no, no use of a pattern. I really liked the episode, altough I thought the way they found the red castle was a bit too easy for me. I mean, seeing a red castle across the street at the same moment she hears about it on the phone... talk about beeing at the right place at the right moment. Anybody else thought Charlie was gonna get shot dead at the end when they split up to search for the kid ? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Keep it up, because just thinking about the next new episode makes me want to do a little jig around the room. Will we have to wait until Jan 2009 for a new episode? "[SNIPPED]It was stated that the red lights were a way to hypnotize people. It's easy to hypothesize that the boy who knows what his mother looks like and how she would act could concoct a visualization of her in his mind. It's unknown what the contraption hooked up to the boy's head does, so we can only speculate about that. In my mind, it does one of two things: 1. It gets/records data from the boy. What kind of data this might be, your guess is as good as mine. 2. It boosts, or somehow enhances the affect of the hypnosis caused by the lights thereby making the false reality of the mother to the boy more believable and perhaps more controllable. As far as Olivia being right in front of the red castle, it was a stretch, but then again, they only get 50 some minutes to solve the case every day. ;) So some things may have to cut to the chase as it were. They could have easily done a boring scene of Olivia driving around that town and then stumbling on the red castle, but it would taken away for other more important parts of the story and perhaps might have been boring watching Olivia search the town. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Where was he all that time that Olivia was froze in a hypnagogic state? --- Was he helping the bad girl get away? --- I mean how much 'wandering' around looking could he possibly do before finding her! I just don't trust him... he's Rogue... I just know it?! --- or do I? lol 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Great episode. I think the most important part was Walters apparent schizo episode. Do you think that was really just Walter seeing himself? Arent you curious why we have never seen his old partner? Do you think the Dr. was acting on his own belief that Walter was a threat? :D1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I'm surprised nobody here got it.Am I the only one who thought the machine was a ripoff of the film Primer? In the film, they devise a way to stop frame-dragging and effectively produce a time-travel machine. My assumption was that was what happened here -especially after Loeb took a big bite out of the apple! 0 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Do you think the Dr. was acting on his own belief that Walter was a threat? :DI wonder if the other Walter was visible only to him. This goes back to the device at the end, though: if it stops frame-dragging, Walter could potentially have a time-travelling doppelganger running around (again, see the film Primer). Personally, I think it was in Walter's head. But the first thing I said when he appeared was: it's William Bell! 2 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

"So what exactly did that machine at the end do?The last time I recall vibrations, repeating frequencies and teleportation being used together was in a comic book. I know that sounds COMPLETELY dorky but...I think it was The Flash but it could have been one of my more recent ones...my taste in comic books, anime and scifi lit has changed over the years. Since the producers and writers of this show are of the same 'mark' as many of my friends and me (as they have claimed in interviews), it makes me happy they are nostalgic about their theories too. And to those who are fretful concerning Walter's 'out-of-body' psychosis...if he succeeds in moving Peter out of that space in the name of 'personal space'...be afraid....be very afraid! 2 out of 2 found this valuable.
