My theory on the Observer
Nov 13 2008, 10:15 PM EST
Okay so I started watching fringe last night and have now caught up and have come up with my own theory about the Observer, so here goes.I believe the observer to be a Reptilian of some sort, another race which sees reptiles in humanoid form. From ancient times all over the world there were stories of these creatures and how they once ruled the earth. The story goes they were driven underground by humans and are still there till this day with great power and technology and are now attempting to use humans for their own purpose, acting behind the scenes in order to overthrow humans. Anyways, reasons why I believe the observer to be a reptillion. No hair - I think I am correct in thinking reptiles have no hair like mammals? sort of connects with the observer having no hair on his head nor eyebrows. Telepathy - What would an advanced species older than humans be capable of? If there were reptile humans we can assume they were an offshoot of the dinosaurs hundreds of millions of years ago and have had plenty of time to evolve to a point greater than the mammals after them. Technology - The Observer appears to have superior technology, once again a race much older than humans? why not? Underground -Remember in the episode where the 'bomb' comes from the ground? this has a message for the observer or someone else? messages from his people underground? reptilian base?Quote from wiki ' In Indian scriptures and legends, the Naga (Devanagari: नाग) are reptilian beings said to live underground and interact with human beings on the surface.' 'On earth they reside deep underground manipulating greys and other races to control humanity's destiny for their own evil deeds.' Cold blood - Reptiles are cold blooded, remember how the water walter and his son were saved on was icy cold and freezing? does this connect and maybe explain why he seemed to feel nothing? 14 out of 23 found this valuable. Message 2 carried on.Didn't have enough space in the other one. When the Observer is eating does he not seem to eat very fast? almost reptile like? I cannot remember what it is he orders, but i'm sure it was very wierd. Does anyone have the list of what he ate? maybe this will link with what reptile eat? or need to survive? post away! 3 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

oh no.... more reptilian conspiracy theories.... if you listen carefully to the episode where the observer shows up, he apparently knows the time and place where he will need that particular person in the future.... really, it's more of a time traveler theory than oh no were being controlled by human like geckos.... blah blah blah..... ICE CREAM!!! hehe o_O.....

oh yah... and if he is cold blooded wouldnt the icy cold water technically kill him since reptiles cant produce their own heat?? mmm... something to think about eh......

Interesting theory, but I think they covered the lizard conspiracy pretty thoroughly in "V"

Did anyone notice the observer in this weeks episode? He was there but only briefly and walking out of the camera shot. I wonder if he's in every episode, anyone who has all episodes recorded can check. 11 out of 12 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Did anyone notice the observer in this weeks episode?yes! he has been in every episode. i think that he is "monitoring" the pattern... did we already establish that? i cant keep up with all the fringologists on this site... you are all way over my head but thats ok maybe i will learn something lol 7 out of 9 found this valuable. The Observer has a limited sense of taste and enjoys raw roast beef, jalapeno peppers, a shaker of pepper and quite a bit of tabasco sauce. I don't think that's reptilean. When Walter is enjoying a root beer float and The Observer appears, Walter refers to the float as being both earthly and heavenly when describing it to The Observer. That may be a hint that baldy is an alien. Also, while in some episodes he is Observing Pattern events, in the Frankfurt airport and at the cocktail party where Olvia confronts Esterbrook, he seems to be observing Olivia, not an event. In the first episode he is simply walking by the Massive Dynamic building. Theoretically, there could be many Observers. Robots, aliens, clones for instance, all looking alike. 13 out of 14 found this valuable. Do you? |

That leaves Robots and Clones. I believe there is, in fact, only one Observer - but it is a possibility that there are more than one.

I don't see anything reptilian about the observer. I may be way off but I still think he is from the future.....only time will tell!! (sorry could not resist).

"Message 2 carried on.The eating process is merely fuel, with the exception of the Jalapeño (11) that is simply a OCD thing. Sliced beef as rare as possible on a bun, all the pepper from the shaker, and Jalapeño (11) with ice water. They are not a genetic creature only an ageless simulant in nature. I think they (many have been seen, identical) are installations of the Creator. 2 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you? |

The observer was in "Power Hungry" episode as well. He stepped off the elevator and walked in the other direction when Joseph Megar arrived at the office building and floor to deliver the package where the woman he was obsessed with was located. I just watched all of the episodes (thanks iTunes) and the observer is in every one, even for a split second.

"No the producers have already said there will be no aliens in this show. "The Observer is using Quantum Mechanics to monitor the Pattern events and Agent Dunham. In Quantum theory, every action still has an equall and opposite re-action, however, the reaction can precede the action (that's the mind-blowing part about QM). Thus, someone using advanced quantum mechanisms or devices could still be quite human (although clone-like or whatever) and still 'predict' accurately when and where an event will occur in order to be on-site when it occurs. However, the kicker is, that the very act of observing the event will alter it's outcome someway. God, you have to love QM, only a real crazy person can figure it all out. Which brings us back to Walter. Food for thought 22 out of 23 found this valuable. Do you? |

but since we have no aliens, he can only be one thing; a visitor from interior of the hollow earth :) This would also explain why he does not appear to age (as rapidly as the surface-dwellers)

From: 55heheRe: observer.... Posted: Yesterday, 12:37 AM EST ::snip:: i think i got it on this guy.... since they already revealed that time travel was possible in the show, what if the observer was a clone sent from the future to observe how humanity degraded to being like him.... think about it, after cloning the same dna over and over again there is some degradation bound to happen and the observer has obviously lost senses and physical features unique to human beings.... just throwing it out there..... This I think is a very viable hypothesis worthy of discussion. You may be onto something, 55hehe! 8 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

Broyles tells Olivia that it took them a year to spot the Observer. However the "pattern" has only been going on for nine months (or so it is said). Why were they looking at him before the pattern?

arjay999's theory that the observer is a "quantum mechanic" Using quantum physics to predict and observe instances of fringe science is my favorite "observer concept". What this says to me is that there is an event coming in the future of the story that involves all elements that have been shown up to this point. This event will be global in scope and reach to affect everyone on the planet. That is the event that the observer is attempting to alter merely by observing all the events that systematically led to the one (potentially catastrophic?) event. Anyone with an understanding of quantum mechanics to the degree that the observer would have to have to predict events to be observed would certianly understand the ramifications of observing such events and must be in fact attempting to use the observations to illicit change in the eventual outcome. Because Dunham, and the team have become aware of the presence of the observer, that in and of itself is the beginning of the change. Their actions in the future will be different because they now know that they are being observed. ? Hmmm. I love this show. 9 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |
