I do not understand why Broyles did not immediately tell Dunham about the existence of the Observer. She figured it out by herself. It evidently took three days and Broyles complemented her by saying it took them a lot longer. If you were Dunham, wouldn't that have pissed you off? It seems like they should have been working very hard to find the Observer. They should have found the waitress at the diner and learned about his odd order and strange note book. Are they purposely handicapping Dunham? ...and for what reason?

I read the Laurell K Hamilton series Anita Blake and she works with the police and the head officer does this to her all the time. They want to know what YOU see, as a specialist, if you catch things they didn't, or if you miss things that they caught. It is frustrating but it's a bit of a test....if she never noticed him, or only noticed him because she was told about him, that would lower her skils in their eyes and make her a less valuable member of the team. They have to know that she can figure things out on her own without them spoon feeding her everything, also as Broyles said to her "You will know when you are ready to know." 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Ok, that's plausible. I wish they would have said that to cover what viewers like me tend to see as shoddy script writting. Didn't they say the last time a cylinder showed up, it dove back into the earth after four days. It bugs me that there wasn't more urgency displayed by Broyles. You see other cop shows and they have team meetings at the beginning of the case to inform all members of everything that is known. If I were Dunham, I would feel like lab rat in a maze. Was this just a training exercise for Dunham? The explaination that I have considered is that the Observer is part of the Broyles/nina team somehow. They evidently knew before this incident that he shows up at these events. Why weren't they "waiting" for him. Shouldn't we be ready for him at the next event?

FBI and military agents get very, very used to not being told the whole story. Do you find this valuable? |

".... Why weren't they "waiting" for him. Shouldn't we be ready for him at the next event?.... I hate to point out the obvious(actually, no, i don't) but think about what you just said. "Why weren't they "waiting" for him. Shouldn't we be ready for him at the next event?", Don't you think if the KNEW when and where the next event would take place, that would just stop it to begin with, which of course... is not whats happening. Show would have lasted one episode, "hey i know where the next attack is taking place" "really?" "yea!" "cool, go arrest them, put them away, and there's no more attacks!" "ok!", show over. I hear what you are saying. My point is that you would think finding him would be a high priority -- maybe the highest. If you have pictures of him, you should have been close enough to get him at some point. I mean --- he's not Bin Laden. Broyles didn't even tell Dunham about him. Don't you find that to be a problem? -- something that just begs for an explanation. For that matter, it doesn't make sense that he shows up at all these events (same clothing -- no disguise) and keeps getting his picture snapped. That's a pretty dumb thing to do when you think about it. Once again, the only explanations I can think of is he is part of the Broyles/Nina team or poor script writing. By the way, if he were to get caught, we would just find out his part of the puzzle, the puzzle could still be quite large.

Well, that might be and you probably have a better feel for this but I hope for the sake of the show is isn't time travel or teleporting or aliens from another world. As the title Fringe implies, I hope they focus on emerging/cutting edge technologies that are somewhat feasible and are just getting out of hand. Aliens would ruin it for me -- Too much like x-files. Time travel and teleporting seem to me to be too great a leap from our current technology state. If in some future episode, Dunham is chasing a bad guy and he teleports away, I will be very disappointed because the playing field is too uneven. I would prefer a more Earthly explanation like the Observer is an biologically engineered human that doesn't age and he's not being chased too hard because of something we will find out in a later episode. The reason why the Observer picked Bishop and his son out of the lake was that Bishop was working in Finge science that was of interest to the Observer and the Observer was following and protecting him. Just a guess....
