Why pick on Stoughton?
Sep 17 2008, 9:01 AM EDT
I moved away from the Boston area a few years ago and it's usually fun to see a tv show set there. However, none of the exterior locations look like the real thing. They seem to be just picking the names of places in and around Boston and substituting shots from somewhere else, like the buildings where they stuck big labels like "Harvard University" - from what I could see, it didn't look like Harvard. Their "Federal Building Boston" wasn't the Tip O'Neil Federal Building. Last night they picked on Stoughton, of all places. Stoughton is a small, working class residential town of under 30,000 with lots of trees and some pockets of newer developments with nice Colonial houses. It may have one or two warehouses downtown but it's too small to have a "warehouse district". It's not near a major suspension bridge.

I lived in Stoughton for about 18 years and there is no suspension bridge in that area. I was very disappointed. Keep the locations fictional if you can't get it right. They are ruining it for us who live here. Did I see a BAT bus in the preview for next week? Will it be in Brockton?

Oh, you didn't know you could see the Zakim-Charlestown bridge from Stoughton? Or maybe they built a new bridge over the Neponset River last week. (I lived in Stoughton for 25 years.) I agree with you. I'd much rather have fictional locations than phoney ones.

I agree. I have lived in Boston for over 20 years and I have not seen one familiar site besides the flyover shot of the Zachim Bridge. And somehow I doubt a top-secret DHS agency would operate out of this janky city. Oh yeah and please I wish we had buildings as nice as the "Federal Building" they keep showing. Not that I'm trying to knock Boston or anything... but I agree that the show is going to lack authenticity to anyone familiar with the Boston area.

Thank you! I am always really excited when a show or movie is in set in Massachusetts, but it is a huge dissapointment when it's obvious that the people making the show have no idea what the real locations they are talking about are like. If next weeks ep is in Brockton I will crack up. The only authentic Boston shots that I have seen are the shot of the Zachim bridge and a shot of the Charles frozen over. It is a little disappointing.

I can only hope that future episodes will show a little more effort in making the show feel like it's actually taking place around here. The little extra polish that real, recognizable locations would add would really make this show that much better and more polished.
