The Fringe Titles (Location Titling)

Hey All,
Does anyone out there know how they pulled off the titles for this show? Like when we show up at different locations - the one that stands out is Baghdad, Iraq. The appear to be 3D, but also reflective - as if a filter was thrown on top and reacted to the picture it was placed over. It looks very similar to how David Fincher did the titles for his film Panic Room, or even the "Priceless" commercial when the titles become a part of the action. Is this making any sense?

I know this is kind of late but they use a program callded 3D Max in conjunction with After Effects. The same effect can be done with the free program Blender and After Effects Do you find this valuable?
