The Secret Society
"On the emblem behind Broyles in the meeting room is the number 7 in red and the words "Pro Patria Gloria Et". A quick google search revealed that this phrase means "For Country and Glory". It was on the emblem of the 107th Infantry during World War I. There is a statue depicting '7' soldiers and is dedicated to their memory on near Fifth avenue and E. 66th street in Manhattan facing Central Park. There were known as ORyan's Roughnecks and were a part of the 27th NY Division. Also related to the 7th regiment of New York.
So this all makes sense that the Emblem has the number 7 on it, 107th infantry, 7 soldiers on the statue, 27th NY Division, 7th Regiment. Lots of 7s.
No Idea how this relates to Broyles, Nina, and the others in the room. Only thing I noticed was that 7 people are seated at the table Broyles is addressing, with Nina included. Other members in the room are seated away from the table.
7... 7... 7... 7..." hey maybe this secret society thing started during world war I and maybe something happened to the 107th infantry like maybe the found something and decided to create this secret society.....

Lost and X-files had a baby.
The second epsiode was really awesome. I loved the premiere. It set up things for the future pretty well so there shouldn't be a big gap in confusion like where did that even come from. One thing I started to hate with xfiles it became so heavy in the alien govt/secret society thing that it lost base with what it was about....this is pure scicene and what if's not a bunch of aliens every other episdoe

QUESTIONS UNANSWERED!!!
I view it from a different angle ..... I believe all these episodes (whether it is directly related to the plot or not) are part of THE PATTERN:
Remember in the ZFT Manuscript, it said: "The advances of science, which are supposed to expand our knowledge of the universe, will, if not carefully controlled, destroy the world as we know it."
OR Nina Sharp's speech in the pilot episode: "But suffice to say that we reached the point where science and technology have advanced at such an exponential rate for so long, it may be way beyond our ability to regulate and control them."
I believe THE PATTERN could be referring to: 1. the out-of-control advancement of science and technology (e.g. cloning, genetic engineering, artificial intelligent ..... etc.) 2. the ethnic or responsibility to society behind these research / experiments (e.g. the big argument between Walter and Peter at the beginning of this episode 1.16 Unleashed) 3. or simply human being crossing the line and wanting to become God ....which lead to unthinkable consequences (didn't we learn anything from the Tower of Babel?).
Isn't this the underlying theme of FRINGE .... and the result will be the unthinkable WARFARE.
If we look from this angle, then a genetically engineer BEAST being unleashed and out of control, fit nicely into this underlying theme .....

Question about
I believe there are several groups with different motives most of which are working independent of the other groups and some pretending to work with others but not really. I believe the pattern is not so much a pattern as each thing is unique, like nothong else suggesting some covert or secret societies operations. The team could solve a mystery, which they do each week, but, to solve all mysteries would not seem realistic considering all the players we know about so far. I think there's plenty of story left. At least I hope so. Bring in the muse and let the creativity flow!

Nazi Mythology and Theories as basis of Experiments
B.2.d. The Hashshashin, the Persian derived designation of the Nizari branch of the Isma'ili Shia Muslims during the Middle Ages, developed a form of asymmetric warfare transforming the act of political assassination into a system of survival and defence against greed, corruption, injustice and foreign domination, they trained highly capable sleeper commandos known as Fedayeen, who would covertly infiltrate enemy positions and remain undercover. If Nizari civilians were facing pogroms or forts imminent attack the Fedayeen were activated to prevent an attack. Tradition gives that the Fedayeen ingested some sort of special preparation, usually given as hashish (a derived form of cannabis), before going on an assignment.
B.3. Then there are zombies, not the fictional sort of popular horror films, but the persons reduced by application of various toxins into a chemically lobotomised, shambling, mindless state -- similar to the effect of watching too much reality TV -- used by "Poppa Doc" François Duvalier, dictator of Haiti from 1957 to 1971, as a means to instill fear of his Voodoo powers and insure the obedience of the oppressed population.
C. The treatment of cells and cell members by ZFT is no different from the methodology of most modern espionage organisations like the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and the CIA; nor does it differ in any appreciable manner from the Ku Klux Klan, the Mafia, and numerous other secret societies in history and the modern world. The whole point of cell organisation like this is the expendability of the cells to insure the preservation of the organism and is in no way Nazi other than by association that the Nazis made use of established methods; one might as well say electricity is Nazi.

Number 15???
Oh my dear god! I thought that this thread would die right away because of my idiotic claims....
What a surprise! So I still may have hope to become one of the Fringe society! (I live in Finland, so I can't watch Fringe on TV, because they don't broadcast it. Yet. ^^

Olive can teleport!
Just a reminder of what was said in the interview
Interview
"I think it's more than that," Torv said. "I think for Olivia it's more than that, and I say that only because there's an episode coming up where we meet another subject, and I think it's more than that. I think what they got given or what they got taught is much bigger than just starting fire."
In a separate interview that night, show runner and executive producer Jeff Pinkner offered more hints about what Olivia's secret power really is. "We saw the consequence," Pinkner said. "We saw that she started a fire at the end of the last episode, but I think it's a mistake to assume that that's her power. I think the truth is, it's probably a consequence of her ability."

The Pattern ...
I think that John was working for someone who is really high on the food chain, clearance for things no one else can see except those who create them. I think Dr Bishop knows most of the things that are being done since he is the one who probably started the research. I would care to say that Peter has some interesting experiments at work in his body, regarding his father talking about his weight and pupil dilation within moments of meeting. Im guessing he gave Peter some sort of power, maybe to boost his awareness to things that most cant see or hear, and because he lost weight the experiment is going to come out quicker. I think Nina, Kirk, John were all in this together and John got cold feet when it came to the plane incident so Nina and Kirk set him and Olivia up to die afraid he might have already told her. Now Phillip who wants Olivia to come work for him in this secret agency, sorta like the x-files in that since, needs back up hence peter and walter will join forces with her on this adventure to uncover the pattern. Now as far as the pattern, I dont know but based on the things Ive seen and read on here I would guess that the pattern is actually a map leading to a bigger bombshell, sorta like a precursor to something much much worse, and as the time for this thing to happen the pattern will become more clear and happen closer together. Great show cant wait.

the truth is out there.. again..
"You may be right, but I propose that for the last few seasons, The X-Files ceased to be "The X-Files". I longed for the original mood and almost campiness of the early X-Files. Fringe is certainly formulaic and from the same mold of the X-Files---no argument there. But frankly, I don't mind an updated/modern version of The X-Files. If Fringe keeps up the momentum of the pilot, I'm not gonna miss an episode." Im with you..the cinema noir quality of the old X gave it is distinction..but have we (society) not moved on to the point we accept the idea of conspiracy as fact ? For our own good, things are kept from us by the government/powerful..kind of like the Presidents Book in National Treasure..so it is not a giant leap to think science is now the hidden/occult that alien contact once was. I just miss cigarette man.

What did you think about Episode 2? Has your opinion changed?
I'm only halfway through the episode but personally I think it's still fantastic, nay... much better even than the first episode. I seriously can NOT wait for more of the secrets to be revealed. Especially the ties between the main characters now through that secret society. Bravo to the writing team (in my opinion)!

Olivia's ability
" It seems like there should have been an investigation.
It was quite fitting the way he was killed--he learned the hard way that you shouldn't play with fire!--but in a way, I would have preferred to see Olivia bring him down in some other way that would humiliate him, such as she did with the bad guy in "The Cure".
" I would have liked the humiliation too of Harris! although since Olivia managed to best him every single time he tried to bully her, she had already proven her point - up until the psych exam he wanted her to take. I do really wonder that the FBI didn't investigate the death of one of their own more, but maybe because it involves military secrets (the Cortexiphan trials) they decided to keep it quiet.
