"I'm not sure about the cultural comment thing, but I'd say that the Observer's "mission" is to observe and for that, he needs to blend in. People are not "unaware" of his presence, they just don't notice him.

My two cents..."
I'd agree...until he saved and helped Walter. gotta have a connection somewhere, right?

"Who is the Observer really?"
Did you mean IRL?

He's a musician and actor ... very talented guy!

Michael Cerveris is his real name.

Our friend The Observer, is quite the talented musician IRL!

Go check his website out here:

"Does the Observer really appear in public or is his image being Photoshopped into these different events. Have you noticed that people around him are completely unaware of his presences, as if he is not there. His is in costume and character you would think he would cause others to notice. On another note, is Fringe making a comment on the self involvement of our culture. Are we all so unaware of those around us? Fringe appears to be making a statement. "
No, he's there, not a photo-shop, imo. Your question on the societal priorities is right on. He blends in because people today are so self-absorbed and don't notice/care about things unless it directly affects them.

ITA, I love looking for The Observer in every episode! (and sometimes in other Fox programs .... e.g. NFL, MLB, American Idol ...etc.)

Actually, the Fox's Fringe website blog give him a really fitting name: "BALDO"
http://www.fox.com/blogs/fringe/2009/09/14/where-was-baldo-this-weekend/

Maybe we can have some spin-off merchandise like "WHERE'S BALDO?" magazine ... that would be fun!

In Night Of Desirable Objects, he is at the Hughes' house, standing in the field, around the time Agent Jessup shows up and finds the Bible. Do you find this valuable?

I beg to differ....
That's not a corn field...that's 'tall grasses'...so the Observer is positioned correctly in my opinion and not 'on TOP of the corn' ...

Just a thought.

I wonder if the Observer was seen walking around, in any of the videos from the global blackout on "FlashForward".

(On "FlashForward", from security cams, they have discovered 2 (maybe more?) who were awake during the 2 min. 17 sec. in which everyone else on the globe blacked out -- and most people experienced a dream-like flash-forward, seeing themselves six months in the future.)

Just kidding about seeing the Observer on that show --
but it would be an interesting cross-show/cross-reality sighting.

Problem is, "FlashForward" is ABC, while "Fringe" is Fox.
Oh, well.
