| Hymenoptera | More Quantum Mechanics: William Bell named after John S. Bell? | 5 | Jun 14 2009, 11:05 PM EDT by techberto | ||

(FYI: I originally started posting on this site as roystonlodge, but I changed my username to something more "Fringy". Just to avoid confusion.) I'm quite enamoured with the idea that Quantum Mechanics will become an important driver of future story-lines, with the writers making connections between Quantum Mechanics, Fibonacci numbers, and "paranormal" phenomena. So far in the show (AFAIK) I've only seen two (tenuous) references to Quantum Mechanics - Claus Penrose (possibly named after phycisist Roger Penrose) and The Observer (who may be influencing events simply by observing them). Maybe there's a third (tenuous) connection - Could William Bell be named after physicist John Stewart Bell? His work involved pairs of quantum particles that continue to instantly influence each other regardless of how far apart they are from each other, apparently communicating with each other faster than the speed of light. He also objected to the way Quantum Mechanics depends on the concept of 'measurement'. If you combine Fibonacci numbers with the concepts that originate from John S. Bell and also with concepts from Roger Penrose, you start to get really weird questions that make great fodder for a paranormal sci-fi series like "Fringe". Fibonacci numbers and Quantum Mechanics are related in that they explore how "information" can be an observable "thing" (for want of a better term) in the natural world, with implications for stuff like the true nature of human consciousness and free will, paranormal abilities like telepathy, and theories that the universe itself is "intelligent" or "god-like". (FYI: I did REALLY poorly in science class, so much of the info I'm getting is from Wikipedia. I'm not suggesting that quantum physics ACTUALLY explains paranormal phenomana. I'm just speculating on how certain ideas in physics MAY be influencing the Fringe writers.)

I used Google Earth to plot the 5 towns Estherville, Cresco, Carroll, Vinton, and Parkersberg. After drawing a line connecting the first four in the shape of a rectangle (like shown in evidence #03), I then estimated the length of side 'b'. Using the Golden Ratio formula (a+b)/a=a/b I found that it was the makings of a Golden Rectangle, from which you can create a golden spiral.

Did anyone else notice this - in ep.9 - The Dreamscape? When Ageny Dunham is searching the house of the guy that jumps through the window of the Massive Dynamic building, she finds an airplane ticket. Notice the name of the airline company? Oceanic!
Also, Lance Reddick (aka Phillip Broyles) is in both series. Coincidence? How cool would it be for both series to be resolved together in the same finale!
