However, it seems the butterflies are imaginary... but the injuries are not. The team is called in to investigate. Although Olivia's unexplained interaction with Agent Scott leads to breaks in the case, she is so desperate to rid her consciousness of him that she demands to go back into the tank.
Meanwhile, the gig is up for Peter when a former friend--and some current foes--find out he's back in Boston.

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS & PLOT DANGLERS

  • Who was keeping the toads in the basement, and if John, how did they survive so long without care?

  • Who or what was the "Ashby situation"?

  • Why was George's greatest fear John Scott?

  • Are the e-mails to Olivia real, or part of her hallucination/shared memories?

  • Do Peter's "associates" have any connection to the Pattern, ZDT, and/or Massive Dynamic?
PLOT HOLES, INCONSISTENCIES OR JUST PLAIN IMPOSSIBLE?
Add unbelievable incidents or sci-fi faux pas to this list!
  • in the archive video; the person under the toad hallucinogen had to be persuaded that something would happen to him when exposed to a stimulus (example: he was convinced that the ice cube was a burning coal) and then his body would replicate the effects which he thinks would have happened (severe burns). It is not clear how Mark is similarly "persuaded" in the first scene. However, the butterfly collection at Mark's apartment (very vaguely) implies he may have had issues with them. Similarly, George has no direct stimulus at the hospital to trigger his vision of John Scott. The MD hallucinatory may provoke buried fears and not require direct persuasion, however.

EPISODE'S BEST QUOTES

  • "Just your average multi-national corporation specializing in secret bio research and defense contracting. Massive Dynamic. Seems like such an innocent name for a corporation, don’t you think?" - Peter

  • "Do you ever wonder how we survived as a species without drugs?" - Charlie

  • " Miss Dunham, what we’re doing, what you have asked me to do, is pushing the boundaries of all that is real and possible. We’re not roasting a turkey." - Walter

  • "I just got an erection. Oh, fear not, it's nothing to do with your state of undress. I think I simply need to urinate." - Walter

  • " There is little that makes me happier than taking drugs. Perhaps administering them, designing and carrying out experiments that bend the plane of what we consider reality. I’ve rarely if ever opposed to such things except now." - Walter
OMG! MOMENTS

EPISODE TRIVIA

  • Mark Young was taking an Oceanic flight to Omaha: Oceanic is the name of the airplane company in J.J. Abram's "Lost." (Note: Oceanic is a name frequently used for fictitious airline companies in movies or on TV since it first appeared in the movie "Executive Decision" in 1996. It's sort of like the "555" prefix used for phone numbers - a generic fill-in for an airline company name.)

  • The Observer is standing against the wall behind Mark as he comes off the elevator at the beginning of the episode.

I know I should post this in the theory section but wanted a few feed back first. Hopefully no one has posted this already.

What I’m thinking is:
Liv is still seeing John due to the “mind meld” that she under went in the bath back in episode 1 or 2 (yes, I know Walter stated this was the reason back in another episode). But what if there is a secondary reason like:

Massive Dynamic still has John’s body and is performing that procedure that they do on dead bodies on him to see what he knows. (Question: I can’t recall but do we know for sure that John is dead?). What if due to that procedure his consciousness was brought back to life some how or something like that and he is actively communicating with her not just left over remnants of the “mind meld” but because of it?

I looked into something called Dreamtime and it gave me some ideas. Let me know what you think.
