| Subject: Agent Phillip Broyles Theories by: M.F. Luder & madamecurie |
- There are many different angles that can be taken on this one, but we are going to go with what works best, and that is one thing. JJ Abrams is consistent in that he always has a very in depth back story for every main character and he slowly lets us learn it piece by piece, almost as if we were on a 'need to know basis'.
- Agent Broyles is playing a role that Abrams has had in most of his other shows. In Alias, Jack Bristow (Jack's wife, the mother of Sydney Bristow, was actually a spy for the "bad guys"). In Lost, James "Sawyer" (Sawyer watched his parents die in a murder/suicide which led him on a path to being on the island and having no less than a dozen connections with other passengers on the flight which crash landed).
In all of the afore mentioned roles, the character had a very important connection going into the past with the main story line. The same goes for Agent Broyles. We have seen him do more than just "collaborate" with the members on the panel following the pattern. When he handed over the Amber Disc to Nina in a private meeting with her at an office in the MD building, there was more to that than just giving it to MD to study. Broyles has a connection with either MD itself or MD did something/experimented on either a direct family member, or most likely his wife (or the war injury theory you'll read later on). As the show progresses, we will find out more about his past, and there will be a tie in with MD in one way or another. He is dedicated to something personal in his investigation of the pattern, and we will be made to realize what that is on a 'need to know' basis.
- We know Agent Broyles was a Marine. We could easily theorize that during a tour of duty in a foreign country he suffered some sort of serious injury. Remember Nina's discussion with Agent Dunham where she says MD controls huge private armies. In some way Agent Broyles was injured in relation to MD soldiers and in turn was given some sort of technology (like Nina's robotic prosthetic) to enable him to resume life as normal. This is where he initially met Nina, and for one reason or another believes she cannot be trusted.
- The pattern has only been investigated for the last Nine months as of episode 1.02, and it can be viewed that either MD asked for the governments help with the problems of scientists going rogue, or the other way around. Being that Agent Broyles has intimate knowledge of MD and Nina from his past he was asked to head up the Team.
- Agent Broyles knows a lot more about both Bishops than he is letting on, there is no way he allows Peter Bishop to join in the investigation and be apart of the team unless he knows more about him than we have been told so far. He also has to know the history between Bell and Dr. Bishop ie., what experiments they worked on while sharing a lab.

| Your Name: Annie79 | Your Comment: And why wasn't I told of this page??? MC? M.F.? Well, now that I've found you out, I shall be visiting her often!! |
| Your Name: greenmiles | Your Comment: Here's a really wild one for you. The characters Phillip Broyles on Fringe and Matthew Abaddon on Lost are actually the SAME GUY! I don't mean the same actor because of course they're both played by Lance Reddick. I mean they're both the same guy. I mean that as you've already said, Broyles obviously has more of a connection to Massive Dynamic than JJ Abrams is letting on. But further, Massive Dynamic has some connection to The Dharma Initiative. I know it's way out there and highly unlikely. But wouldn't it be cool if Abrams somehow tied Massive Dynamic, The Pattern and The Dharma Initiative all together? |
| Your Name: telekniceness | Your Comment: I think agent Broyles is the key to linking, if there is a link, Lost with fringe. Agent Broyles is in lost towards the end of season 4 (although he could be just playing a different character). It is also relevant to note when discussing his task force with the board he says "i hope they do better than my last team." Not only that but lets look at the team from lost. A couple of beautiful women (naomi and charlotte) with some kind of field experience, a crazy smart but definitely crazy scientist (daniel) and a wildcard (miles) who can talk to the dead. Not only that but we know that Dharma was experimenting on things to do with electromagnetism and time travel, who knows what they could have started??? |
| Your Name: Chrissyladyrn | Your Comment: I agree with the statement made in your theory, "There are many different angles that can be taken on this one, but we are going to go with what works best, and that is one thing. JJ Abrams is consistent in that he always has a very in depth back story for every main character and he slowly lets us learn it piece by piece, almost as if we were on a 'need to know basis'." For the yet to be revealed reason(s), Broyles doesn't trust Nina and MD. I believe that Broyles needs Dunham's imaginative and unconventional thinking, along with her tenacity and intelligence that she applies to her work and her life, to ferret out information regarding all of MD's projects that he cannot (for whatever reason) do himself. I, however, am willing to give Abrams credit for his creative genius in the creation of Broyles' character... a character that has nothing whatsoever to do with other roles he has written in the past. I, for one, at least hope so; redundancy is boring. |
| Your Name:Notsmarteoungh | Your Comment: It is not uncommon to have actors appear on different shows created by, or produced by the same person. just because he shows up on one two different show does not mean that they are connected. That's not to say there my not be an inside joke or two. I personally am getting tired of people trying to make the connection between Lost and Fringe. If there turns out to be one Fringe will have lost a fan. |

There have also been at least two plane tickets in Fringe that say Oceanic Air. There must be a deeper coverup going on here, as secret as this whole task force is there seem to be a lot of people that know exactly whats going on every step of the way /Is Broyels a Mole because of that? I also think the new DHS Guy that hates Olivia is actually going to turn out to be a good character. Fringe is way more 24 like because of Fox than it is Lost. It would be hard to think that FOX and ABC would let JJ Abrams cross over too much unless they have some greater Idea going on here like a Lost and a Fringe Movie that both ABC and FOX would benefit from.

A perfect actor for both (Fringe & Lost) roles. His voice and demeanor add mysterious depths where you know right away that in the world of "need to know" there is much to know and somebody has decided that you do not need to know. As for the connection of the two series - an interview with the writers revealed that fringe science stuff is what interests them and that's why they made a show about it. So, secret science experiments is the true connection. Lance Reddick on Lost reminded me more of the Observer than Broyles.
