Imagine the alternate reality Walter if he did not end up having the lab accident and getting committed to an asylum. He would have been able to continue on with his work. Then what experiments would he have come up with? Is it possible that the horrible thing that might come over from the alternate realit really him. Could the alternate Walter be the one behind the upcoming war?

I've got a new theory - and I'm beginning to see things differently.
What if that lab fire that consumed Walter's lab assistant was a SHOWDOWN between Bishop and Bell?? What if Bell beat Walter but could not destroy him. That lab fire is a BIG CLUE and could answer a LOT of questions. Walter doesn't remember any of the details of the fire (it would seem) but what if Bell did something to Walter, but could not destroy him. I want to know WHO KNEW WHERE BISHOP HID THOSE PARTS TO THE TELEPORTER? Could the cap-wearing dude who got information on the metal suppository also gleaned information on Walter's hiding places???

I get the feeling that Dr. Bishop has two brains from other sources that manipulate him. The body is just a contender.

I think that it is possible Walter went to another reality and brought Peter with him but it is also equally possible that this did not work out or that Walter became the Walter of that reality.
Although he could be faking it, the "memory problems " he has been experiencing could be because he does not have the memories or they were not entirely passed to him. He may have put the other Walter in a non functional state (for lack of more certain detail) and try to gain his memories similar to what happened with Olivia in the pilot. Because of the way he gained the memories, their access may be harder than if they were really his. It is likely that he would try to gain the memories so that other people from the reality he has made himself a part of would not notice that he killed the other Walter. To support that he does not have the memories or that they are not clear I shall refer to two scenes. The first scene that comes to mind is that of him typing on his type writer and figuring out that he wrote the manifesto. The second is him watching the tape where he finds a scared younger Olivia and the missing boy who could influence others to feel his emotions. He seems to be learning about what he did in the past or at least that is the way the creators are portraying it. There may have been complications in bringing Peter to his reality. A result of these complications has led the Observer to save him and Peter from freezing and drowning in the river. As a result he decided to stay in that reality and replace the Walter in it. Walter seems very disturbed by what he did. The other Walter haunting him in the institution reflects this. Judging by Walters current psychological state it is either that he could not have done those things as his personality, morals, and psychological make up would not have allowed it or that something changed in him since he went to the institution. Such a drastic change seems unlikely.

I think John Noble does a FANTASTIC job of playing Walter! Walter is one of the funniest andmost interesting characters my wife and I have seen on TV ever! There has not been an episode yet where I haven't laughed out loud at his multiple Walterisms.

I have ben thinking about this for a while now. i think that Walter is Bell. in most split personality cases the person uses letters in there name, first name different last, same last different first, in Walter's case both his and bells names start with W and B, in last weeks episode i think that the when walter saw himself in the mental hospital he was seeing Bell. this would make sense when nobody sees Bell and according to walter they worked together and all of Massive Dynamics. this will be the big end of the season twist this is why they wont show William Bell. he is Walter Bishop. they are one in the same.
